A stretch of Washington Avenue will close to cars Saturday and open to neighbors instead.

Santa Monica Forward is hosting a free Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Washington Avenue between 14th and 15th streets. The volunteer-led advocacy group described the event as a chance for residents to experience what their neighborhood could look like when a street is designed around people rather than cars, according to an announcement on Santa Monica Next.

No RSVP is required. Admission is free.

The block party will feature food, music, activities for kids and adults, partner tables from local organizations, bingo and raffle prizes. Santa Monica Forward is encouraging attendees to bring a blanket or camping chair, a lawn or board game to share, a kids' toy or activity, and a water bottle.
