The Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra will bring Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade to The Broad Stage on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m.

The orchestral suite, inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, is filled with sweeping melodies, rich colors and dramatic adventure, according to a Santa Monica College post on Threads. The college called it "an afternoon of vivid orchestral storytelling."

Admission details were not listed in the college's announcements. Tickets are available at smc.edu/tickets or by calling 310-434-3005. The Broad Stage is located at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th St. in Santa Monica.

The orchestra drew families to The Broad Stage in April for a Spring Children's Concert conducted by Mercedes Juan Musotto, according to The Corsair, SMC's student newspaper. That performance featured collaborations with students from the college's dance and theatre arts departments, including original choreography by April Torres and Layla Fowler and narration by Nathan Hathaway. The program blended orchestral music with dance and clowning to engage audiences of all ages. After the show, the lobby became an instrument petting zoo where children handled instruments alongside the musicians.

The Scheherazade concert caps a busy weekend of music at The Broad Stage. The SMC Music Department's Applied Music Showcase Benefit Concert, featuring some of the college's top music students, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m., according to the college's post on X.
