Los Angeles Metro will waive all fares on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, giving Santa Monica commuters free transit across the county.

Free service runs from 4 a.m. Nov. 3 to 3 a.m. Nov. 4 and covers all bus and rail lines, the on-demand Metro Micro service and Metro Bike Share, Spectrum News reported, citing a Metro announcement.

Metro has also placed mail-in ballot drop boxes at 12 stations across LA County. The boxes sit in public areas monitored by security cameras, according to the agency. Among the 12 locations is the Wilshire/La Cienega D Line station's street-level entrance.

Riders heading to Wilshire/La Cienega should be aware that station, along with Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Fairfax, closed Oct. 23 for maintenance work, according to Metro's official blog. All three stations are scheduled to reopen at 4 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, the day before the election.

Bike Share and Metro Micro

Metro Bike Share users can get a free 30-minute ride by selecting a one-ride option at a kiosk or in the app and entering promo code 110326 at checkout. A credit or debit card is required, and the code can be used multiple times throughout the day.

Electric-bike fees are waived. Rides longer than 30 minutes cost $1.75 for each additional half-hour, Metro said.

Metro Micro rides can be booked through its app, at ridemicro.metro.net or by calling 323-466-3876 and selecting option 5. No coupon code is needed. Rides booked on Election Day are automatically free.

Voting center at Metro headquarters

Metro headquarters at One Gateway Plaza, next to Union Station, will host a voting center open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Santa Monica vote centers

Santa Monica's General City Election falls on Nov. 3. The city's four-day vote centers at Marine Park, Reed Park and Virginia Avenue Park open Saturday, Oct. 31, according to the city's election page. On Election Day, vote center hours run from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents can also mail ballots with no postage required or locate their nearest LA County ballot drop box through the county registrar's online locator.
