The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has filed a felony indecent exposure charge against a registered sex offender who allegedly exposed himself to an employee at a Santa Monica women's clothing store.

Michael Greenwald, 72, of Calabasas faces one count of felony indecent exposure under California Penal Code Section 314(1), which applies when a defendant has prior convictions for similar conduct. The charge was filed Sept. 8, the Argonaut reported. Santa Monica police are now asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter with Greenwald to come forward.

A conviction could carry 16 months to three years in state prison and up to $10,000 in fines under the statute, Patch reported.

The incident occurred Aug. 29 at about 3 p.m. A man entered the store and told an employee he needed to try on women's clothing for a television show, according to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD). SMPD Lt. Lewis Gilmour said on Sept. 17 that the man "allegedly intentionally exposed his genitals and buttocks to a female employee," according to the Santa Monica Lookout. He then left without buying anything.

The employee reported it the next day.

Detectives reviewed footage of the suspect's vehicle, which led to Greenwald's identification and arrest on Sept. 4. Investigators also served a search warrant at his residence and recovered evidence, SMPD said.

Gilmour said the investigation remains active and police could not discuss its scope or say whether additional reports had been received, according to Patch.

Greenwald is a registered sex offender with prior convictions for similar behavior, according to court records cited by the Santa Monica Mirror. KTLA reported he was arrested in connection with indecent exposure incidents at the Camarillo Premium Outlets in 2014 and in a similar case in 2008 that led to the suspension of his real estate license. SMPD declined to confirm the Ventura County connection, according to Patch.
