Santa Monica High's girls tennis team beat Culver City 13-5 on Tuesday, Sept. 22, opening league play with a decisive win at home.

The victory moved the Vikings to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in Bay League play, according to MaxPreps. It was Samohi's first home league match of the season after a 4-2 nonleague start.

Sophomore Mila Humby won her singles match against a hard-hitting Culver City opponent. Freshman Aqua Tylor and sophomore Sasha Lu picked up a doubles win late in the match.

The 13-5 margin matched Samohi's second meeting with Culver City last season. The Vikings swept the Centaurs in 2025, winning 12-6 in the first match and 13-5 in the second, on their way to a 12-3 record in CIF Southern Section Division 3.

Sophomore Skylar Krechman, who stepped into the No. 2 singles spot against Archer School for Girls earlier in September and won 6-4, told the Samohi student newspaper the Culver City match was tougher.

"I think it was a little harder than when we played against Archer," Krechman said. "I'm hoping we can win the playoffs."

Head coach Shaun Simone's squad has stayed busy since the Culver City win. The Vikings tied Peninsula 9-9 on Wednesday, Sept. 23, bringing their overall record to 5-2-1 heading into this week.

Samohi's schedule picks up again with a trip to Geffen Academy on Thursday, Oct. 1. The Vikings return home to face Brentwood School on Monday, Oct. 5, at 2:30 p.m., then host their next league match on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 2:30 p.m. A rematch at Culver City is set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
