The 90-year-old man found dead on a construction balcony at Westminster Tower on Aug. 14 has been identified as Maurice Robson, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed.

The Medical Examiner listed Robson's cause of death as blunt traumatic injuries and ruled the manner of death a suicide, according to records dated Wednesday, Aug. 19. The agency's records list the place of death as a construction site.

Santa Monica police Lt. Lewis Gilmour separately confirmed the identification, as SM Observed reported. Patch also confirmed the identification with Gilmour on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Santa Monica police and fire personnel had responded to the 1100 block of 7th Street on Friday, Aug. 14, after Robson was found on a sixth-floor construction balcony at the 17-story residential building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Aug. 14, Gilmour described the deceased only as "an elderly man," with the identity withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Westminster Tower was undergoing exterior renovations at the time of the incident, an employee of the building's owner previously confirmed to Patch. Whether Robson was a resident of the building has not been publicly stated.

Police said on Aug. 14 that preliminary information indicated the death was not related to criminal activity and posed no threat to the public. Officers temporarily closed 7th Street between Wilshire Boulevard and Washington Avenue while personnel completed the investigation.

The Medical Examiner case is logged under number 2026-12839 in public records. No further official proceedings related to the death have been announced.
