Hard kombucha brand JuneShine will permanently close its tasting room at 2914 Main St. on Friday, Aug. 28, according to the Santa Monica Mirror, ending a five-year run that made the white-walled taproom a fixture for DJ sets, trivia nights and birthday parties on Santa Monica's south side.
The closure leaves JuneShine with no company-operated public locations anywhere in the United States. Its only other remaining tasting room, in Scripps Ranch, San Diego, closes the same day, according to SanDiegoVille.
JuneShine announced the shutdown Monday, Aug. 3, on social media, calling it "The Last Splash" and encouraging fans to visit before the final day. The company, founded in 2018 by University of San Diego classmates Greg Serrao and Forrest Dein, said the decision did not come easy but was "the right one for what's next."
The brand said its beverages will continue to be sold through retailers, grocery stores and bars. JuneShine's website claims it is "expanding quickly" with "new locations," though reporting by SanDiegoVille found no known company-operated public locations will remain after Aug. 28.
Another Main Street vacancy
The closure adds to a growing list of 2026 departures along the corridor. Holey Grail Donuts shuttered its Main Street location in March, with signage indicating a Canadian dessert chain will take the space. Blow Me Candle Co. relocated from Main Street to nearby Berkeley Street in April.
Just 12 days before the closure announcement, JuneShine was listed as a participating business in the Main Street Entertainment Zone during Santa Monica's State of the City event on July 23. Hunter Hall, executive director of the Main Street Business Improvement Association, said in a July 21 statement promoting the event that it was "a great opportunity to showcase everything Main Street has to offer while welcoming residents and visitors to support our local businesses."
Broader retreat
Earlier in 2026, JuneShine confirmed it would permanently cease brewing operations in San Diego, transition all production to third-party contract manufacturers and put its former Ballast Point brewery up for sale. The company described the shift as moving to a "horizontal production model." Its Brooklyn tasting room in Williamsburg had already quietly closed in March 2024.
JuneShine raised $24 million in funding in 2021, the same year it opened the Santa Monica location. The taproom featured the company's line of alcoholic drinks poured from bamboo levers and a small event space in the back that regulars used for book clubs and community gatherings.
No tenant or permit application for the 2914 Main St. space has been announced. Residents can visit the tasting room through Friday, Aug. 28.
