Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang is seeking a fourth term in the Nov. 3 general election. Prang, first elected in 2014, oversees the assessment of more than 2.6 million properties across Los Angeles County, leading what the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund describes as the largest local property assessment agency in the country.
Those assessments generate the property tax revenues that fund schools, cities and essential public services throughout the county. Prang faces four challengers in the race, according to the Los Angeles Times.

On the issues
Government reform and office modernization
Prang said he has prioritized modernizing the assessor's office through a $130-million investment in new technology over his three terms, according to the Los Angeles Times. The investment has paid off, he said. Recent successes include new software that tracks down previously unassessed aircraft and a system that reassessed thousands of homes destroyed in last year's fires in fewer than 90 days, delivering tax relief to victims.
Housing and property assessment
In a candidate questionnaire response, Prang said he sought election as assessor with three goals: to serve the public with the highest standards of accountability, accuracy and integrity; to value all property accurately and fairly; and to modernize the office to achieve efficiency and guarantee the integrity of valuation systems.
